Vardum for GrapheneOS

The free beta of Vardum for Android phones running GrapheneOS. It doesn't need Google services: alerts arrive through UnifiedPush, using the free ntfy app. Install it straight from this page, no app store needed.

Version 1.0.0 (build 63) · Free during the beta · The source code is public on GitHub

Install in four steps

  1. Install ntfy from F-Droid. Vardum uses it to receive alerts without Google. Without it, messages still arrive whenever Vardum is open.
  2. Download the APK with the button above.
  3. Open the file. If GrapheneOS asks, allow your browser to install apps for this one install.
  4. Open Vardum, then create your identity or restore it with your 24 words. Allow notifications when asked.

Check it's genuine

Before installing, you can confirm the file came from us. The easiest way is GrapheneOS's own AppVerifier app: share the download to it, or compare these values yourself.

If the signing certificate doesn't match, don't install the file. Every Vardum update is signed with the same key, so Android only lets a genuine update install over the app.

Updates

New beta builds are posted here. Install a new one over the top: your chats, vaults and settings stay, because each build is signed with the same key. Builds are numbered, so a newer build always has a higher number.

About this beta

  • It's free during the beta. At launch, Vardum is a one-off payment of A$14.99.
